The very first Ives tender was hand painted. This No. 1 had cast iron wheels and no bunker. it came only with the small No. 0 tin loco.

1st series hand painted No. 1 tender in green - note the trucks are impressed inward and slightly different than the black versions on this page. This tender probably came with a hand painted green engine that has also been located.

This was found with an original boxed set (1901 catalog inside). This early No. 1 tender has a hand painted gold leaf design on trucks that would appear to simulate springs?
