1919 Herald Boxcars

The cars below are all classified as 1919 due to their cut frames. IVES took the frames they used for the 550 series four wheel cars and cut the spring detail from them so that 60 series trucks could be applied. Pictures of these type of cars appear in all the catalogs from 1919 to 1922, although advertisements from 1921 and 1922 use the same drawings they have the truss rods drawn in. These cars are very rare and why IVES used the other frame is unknown. It may be that they used these frames when needed and some of these cars could be as late as 1921 or 1922. Note that the ACL car below has the 'halo lettering' which brings into question why it would and similar cars dated to as late as 1923 don't. Also note that the N.Y.C. car has the later litho without the "American Car and Foundry Co." logo.

Note that this car has the 'halo lettering' while the 1923 version we have pictured does not. This could mean that the body on this one was switched or that IVES used this frame on later cars as well.
