Circa 1925-1926 - Redish/brown 3236 with cast iron frame, brass plates and die cast wheels.
Circa 1925-1926 - Olive green 3236 with cast iron frame, brass plates and die cast wheels.
Circa 1927 - Unusual variation in black. Note change in top trim
Rare gray version.
Unusual orange 3236 with Ives body and steel frame.
Circa 1927. This 3236R with an all IVES cab is on a frame from a 3237 which has been cut down to fit the 3236. Note the 3237 frame (bottom) IVES effectively cut the frame at the last journal on both sides. This locomotive has also been reported in cadet blue also. Circa 1928 - Steele frame and IVES cab would appear to be early 1928 only. The 1928 catalog showed this locomotive with an IVES cab and two headlights, at least a couple examples of this locomotive have been observed. After the Lionel/AF buyout in the summer of 1928, the old cab was replaced with a Lionel No. 8 body which had an extra bead stripe on the bottom and a slot punched out for the reversing unit on the top (see red example below) May not look like much, but extremely rare is this early 1928 3236 with the Ives body with window inserts and 2 engraved headlights. 3236 in deep brown Circa 1928 - Red Lionel cab with steel frame.
Circa 1929-30 - Cadet blue Lionel cab on steel frame with wide motor.
Circa 1929-30 - Black Lionel cab on a steel frame with wide motor. Above is the 'R' version below with manual reverse.
Circa 1930 - Unusual color combination, this may be a one-of-a-kind engine. It came with two very unusual cars which had 184-186 bodies, but were numbered with 247, 249 decals much like a National Limited car.
Underside of late 3236 showing wide motor and weights. Every once in a while a black body shows up on a black frame - we believe this was done by IVES but can't be sure.
Normally the paint on these cabs is semi-glossy or glossy - above is an unusual flat black 3236. |
