60 Series Passenger Cars    (Circa 1901-02)

No. 60  Baggage

Long on couplers short on paint

As with the 50 series, the very first 60 series cars were hand painted. These were the best cars Ives had to offer from 1901 to 1903 and it is very likely that the hand painted cars were only used in the 1901 line. We do know that Ives was using lithography by 1902. Very few of these early hand painted 60 cars have survived. Those that have are painted red with white and orange details. The roofs were red with white clerestories that had black striped simulated vents.

Lettering NOT original

The bottom of one of these cars shows the early long hook couplers and the cast iron wheels.

No. 61  Passenger Car

If any of these 61 hand painted passenger cars survived the last 100 years we have yet to find it let alone get a picture of it. If one does exist it probably has red sides with a large white stripe below the windows and a small orange stripe above the windows. The roof would be red with white clerestory and black simulated vents. The wheels would be cast iron and the frame would have the long hook couplers. If anyone has one of these please contact us through the email links on this website.

No. 62  Parlor  Car

Note orange stripe above windows.

Circa 1901 - the details are similar to the cars above, hand painted in red, white, orange and black with long hook couplers and cast iron wheels.
