Tender No. 11    (Circa 1905-09)

Around 1905 or 1906 the L.V.E. tender now has rivet detail and a full lithographed base.

Here's a  beautiful example circa 1906 except the lettering is upside down.

Same tender with lettering right side up

Same time period but notice that the letter board is embossed on this tender - unusual. Also the red hatching corresponds to the Type 5 - 50 series cars from this period.

Chicago Flyer

Above is a smooth sided No. 11 with Chicago Flyer markings. Notice also the gold rim around the top.  Below is a Chicago Flyer tender with rivet detail and silver rim around the top.  Lou Hertz stated that these were specially made for a Chicago firm around 1907-08. We have never been able to verify who they were made for, but the example below does have the 'thin hook' coupler found on early Brooklyn cars which would date it to 1908.

What we want you to notice here is the gold stripe along the frame. We've seen several Hiawatha cars with this feature, but don't know what this would have went with, note the heavy hook coupler. Beside the stripe the frame is plain and has the long hook coupler which would probably date it to 1910.

Smooth sided LVE 11, since it has a loop couple it would probably date to 1907 or 1908

Three tenders looking at them from the top. The top one is the earliest with the red hatch, red loop coupler and if you could see the bottom, it has the 'shinny tin' surface as seen on Mohawk cars and early Iroquois cars.
