All black with red trim, full red door, silver rubber stamped lettering. "Alternating" and "Direct" current switch. The example below has slightly different lettering. The paint is original not sure about the lettering. The 3218 above has New York Central markings - Examples of this exist in other electrics including the 3217, 3238 and the 1 gauge 3239. We believe these are the earliest of the rubber stamped electric style engines. Below is a side view of the engine showing it was stamped "Ives" on the ends. This is a bottom view of the above NYC locomotive showing the motor and reverse.
