Circa 1913 (S1a) - The example above is painted black, the one below is olive. Note the old style lettering similar to the earlier tank cars. Also note different lettering on tank ends from later examples

Circa 1913 (S1b) - The Olive variation is difficult to detect with these photographs.

Circa 1914

Circa 1914 - Same as above but the rivets go the wrong way - we've spotted a couple of these so it wasn't just a one time error.

Circa 1916 (S4) - First tank to show twist tab coupler. Also note lettering to end of tank. Also of note is that the tank above is stamped incorrectly at 100,000.

Circa 1916 (S5) - Same as above, except Capacity listed as 10,000.

Circa 1917 (S6) - Type A, M-style trucks

Circa 1917 (S6a ) - S6a Type A, M style trucks.

Circa 1919 (S8) - Cut frame with no truss rods.

Circa 1919 - Another cutframe version this one has the 566 number on it.

Circa 1923 (S11a) - Type B, M-style trucks

Circa 1923 (S11b) - 

Here's an example where the metal was rolled the wrong way the rivets go in.

Circa 1924 - Orange colored tank with type B-M style trucks, trucks have solid rivets.

Circa 1925 (S12) - Type C, M-style trucks with hollow rivets.

Circa 1930 (S14) - Besides the trucks which now have journals note how the lettering has changed from the 1925 variation. Also the metal cap on each end has a different stamping

Circa 1930 (S15) - 

Circa 1930 (S16) - Lionel tank on an IVES body. A rare 4 wheel version of this car also exists.
