55 Stock Car  (Circa 1908-09)
yellow with gold details and black lettering

Circa 1908-1909: Very rare early stock. These cars were never pictured in any catalog. We have found them listed in a 1909 price list. 1908 would be the earliest these cars were made as they use the same body from the Brooklyn series baggage. The particular example shown here has the roof removed to show the lettering above the door.  This page shows four of the five examples that we know of - the other one has a green roof.

Similar car but with a butterscotch roof, the example below has a 'Hiawatha' type roof, but it's probably a replacement.

The latest of these stock cars (circa 1909) has a green roof with gold highlights and a plain frame with no litho.

Above and below is a comparison of a 55 stock next to a 155 floor version stock car. Popular believe is that the floor trains were just re-using stock left over prior to 1910, but the litho on this car has obviously changed. The construction of the body is also different. Besides being extremely flimsy and light weight the metal is two separate pieces tabbed together at the end doors.
