No 3241 0-4-0    (1921-1925)

Circa 1921-1922 - red above, green below with early frame with no simulated 3rd rail pickup, red painted steps and early motor

Circa 1921 - The owner calls this Kelly Green, it is a different color green. What we do know is that this one has the earliest frame (without the simulated outside rail pickup) and looks to be the same color as pictured in the 1922 catalog. Below is another 3241 in the same color but with the later (1922-23) frame without the painted steps and third rail pickup.

Circa 1922-23 - Ives 3241 Light Green  (not olive) with silver/white lettering.

Green variations seem to be plentiful, this one is almost a pea green.

Circa 1922 - Maroon with gold lettering.

Circa 1922-1924 - Red 3241 with gold rubber stamped lettering and cast iron wheels.

Circa 1922-1924 - Green 3241 with gold rubber stamped lettering and cast iron wheels. Below is the same engine with silver rubber stamped lettering.

Circa 1921 Red variation, the thing to notice here are the two punched holes for a headlight - basically this cab was punched to be a 3242, below is a front view of the locomotive.

Variation? This one looks original and actually came with a set of cars that also had red/black roofs. The example below has green doors and vents that match the green windows.

Circa 1924 - Wanamaker Special. Note that Wanamaker engines are always stamped as 'MOTOR'. Compare the 1924 engines above with the 1925 ones below, besides the brass plates the handrails along the cab and only one cotter pin on each door handrail.

Circa 1924 - 1924 - note that the engine above and below are 'R' units, but the 'R' has been stamped after the fact, this was done in 1924 before they had 3241R stamps.

Note - no indentation for plates.

Circa 1925 - Red 3241R above with cast iron frame and die cast wheels. Below is a green 3241 from the same period. You won't find very many 3241s with brass plates. Note that all of these brass plated 3241s have no indentation for the plates, slots are punched and the plates just lay on top of the metal.

The 3241 pictured above is olive green while the 3241R pictured below is light green and has the trim of a 3242(two head lights and full railings.)

The green engine above and the red one below have steel frames and snow plow pilots, which would put them in the 1926 era. Since they both have dual headlights and extra trim we assume these were sold as 3242s and they were just using up old plates?
