No 3245 4-4-4 (1928-1930) | ||||||||||||
Circa 1928 - light green with brass doors and hatches, below is the front of the engine showing the unique pilot truck attachments.
The one of a kind black and orange model above is missing the brass swivel that the trucks ride on. Compare it to all black version above.
Closer view of pilot truck and frame with the hood off. One of a kind short cab 3245 in black with orange frame. Most black 3245 short cabs have black frames like the one pictured below.
Top - black 3245 short cab. Bottom - Cadet Blue 3245 short cab.
3245 shortcabs with cast iron frames, above and below are the only two that we know of. It is our opinion that Ives used the cast iron frame for these engines when they were sold with all Ives cars (180 series cars).
Above is the 3245 long cab from 1929, note all the trim is nickel and frame is painted black along the side. Below is the 3245 long cab from 1930, it has all brass trim and the side of the frame is orange. The 1929 version above was probably sold as a separate item as it still has it's original box, the example below came with the original set and didn't have it's own box.
Circa 1930, new frame casting - note the 4 step holes on the frame, compared with the 3 steps on earlier models.
I'm not sure this one is original as I have only seen the picture, but there is reported to be at least one example of a 3245 with a red frame that came with a set of Chief cars. |
