500 Series Litho Passenger Cars (Circa 1926-1928) | |||||||||||||||
Circa 1927-1929 - Looks like one of the cars from the Green Mountain set but it's not. We're not sure how this car was sold and it is VERY rare. Also rare is this car in White Owl colors. Circa 1926-1928 - From the Green Mountain set with it's plain green body, gold trim and red roof.
Circa 1927-1928 - The 551 from the White Owl set. Notice this car has a green roof, it came in a standard Green Mountain set with a 3258 and 552 Parlor car all having Green roofs. No 60 body on a 4 wheel frame equals a 550 car. The bodies were always the same and were often interchanged.
Circa 1926-1928 - From the Green Mountain set with it's plain green body, gold trim and red roof. Note the change in the windows to square tops from the previous round tops. Car pictured below is unusual in that it was sold in 1926 or later but it has round top windows, Actually this is another case of an older body (note orange lettering) used on a later car (the red roofs didn't show up until 1926)
Circa 1926-1930 - Here's another variation on the old No. 62 body on a 4 wheel frame. Note that this car is post 1926 but the 62 cars still carried the Round Windows shades on their litho, different than the square tops found on the 552 at that time. If this car came in a set with an observation, the observation would have had round window shades also. Although Ives would mix various color combinations together, they didn't mix round window cars with square window cars.
Circa 1927 - White Owl 552. Something you won't see everyday, a 552-62 Drawing Room Car, not sure of the date on this one
Circa 1927-1928 - From the White Owl set this car is plain white with red trim and red roof.
Circa 1927-1929 - Looks like a Green Mountain car, but actually VERY rare, never cataloged in this color and is found in three car sets with the equally unique No. 550 above. These cars have shown up with American Flyer roofs (rounded corners) and with green roofs instead of red. The 550 series were not cataloged in 1928, but the 558 below may be from either 1928 or 1929 - it is identical to the car above except it has a green American Flyer roof. |
