50 Series Passenger Cars (Circa 1910-15) | |||||||||||||||
Earliest version of this baggage car, it has a black frame with a gray roof and Pennsylvania Lines lettering on the top. Circa 1910-1911
Somewhat later version has dark green or black frame with matching roof (in this case the roof is a bright green), this one still has Pennsylvania Lines lettering.
Last version of this variation the frame is black and the lettering has changed to THE IVES RAILWAY LINES. Circa 1913-14
Circa 1910, with gray frame, gray roof and PENNSYLVANIA LINES lettering
Circa 1911-1912 this car still has the PENNSYLVANIA LINES lettering,
Circa 1913 to 1914 Similar car as 1912 car except the lettering is smaller and now says THE IVES RAILWAY LINES.
These cars are what we call tweeners. Above has a 1915 frame and roof but still has the old lithographed wood plank body. Another example of Ives using whatever parts they had, doubt if you'll see too many of these probably dates to 1915 or later. The car below uses the older body with PENNSYLVANIA LINES, a 1910-14 roof, but a 1915 or later frame.
Circa 1913-1914 - Side view of No. 51 Newark with brown roof.
Earliest variation of the No. 52 Washington Pullman with it's gray frame and roof, Notice the lettering on the top of this car is smaller than either the No. 50 or No. 51
As with the Newark cars shown above the gray frames only seem to appear in 1910, this black frame version is most likely 1911-12.
Again like the Newark cars the lettering above the windows changed to read THE IVES RAILWAY LINES somewhere around 1913 and remained that way until the next version of 50 series passenger cars was issued.
