50 Series Passenger Cars (Circa 1902-05) | |||||||||||||||
Available as early as 1902 with some of the better sets the Mohawk series baggage looked much like the latter series (Hiawatha) except it had lithographed peds without rods or frame supports.
Same car as above in red with black lettering, but Ives used Yellow instead of white as the bottom litho color this makes the door handle and the stripes yellow and the color of the red more Rose then red. Here's something we've only seen on the early baggage's with the yellow or orange base color - there's no door lithographed on either end. Don't know if there was a reason or not.
Another red 1903 No. 50 baggage but this one has a plain black frame Early baggage with the shinny tin bottom and no vestibules - never had them. This car has the Mohawk frame but only has the two colors, common in the later baggage that came with the Hiawatha type frame, uncommon on this frame. Standard red Mohawk car circa 1902-1905, note that it is stamped "No. 1" on lower left
The yellow variation of the Mohawk car, No difference except the color Another yellow Mohawk but with a painted frame.
The Red variation of the Mohawk car, but this one has no vestibules - that's the way this car was sold, in the early years prior to 1905, Ives cataloged Set No. 0 as having the small No. 0 locomotive and a single passenger car without vestibules. Note that this car also never came with any couplers since it was the only car in the set the lucky owner just attached the tender coupler to one of the pins and off it went. Note the example below taken from an original set.
Looks like the usual yellow variation of the Mohawk car, but note that this one has the full frame with steps and lithographed frame supports. A feature found on the later Hiawatha cars but not usual for the Mohawk Cars. |
