50 Series Passenger Car Frames - 1901-1910 |
The following breakdown covers just the frames for the early 50 series passenger cars produced by IVES prior to 1910. There is obviously some overlapping of the types and this list does not take into account some of the frames found on the 54 gravel car also made during this period. Rod Cornel and myself have been observing these cars from original sets for years and believe the following listing is fairly close. Type 1 - 1901-1903 - painted embossed springs. Type 1 - early hand painted cars - frame is embossed with spring detail - no lithography. Type 2 - frame is flat with no embossing, no truss rods and either painted (above) or lithographed (below) with spring detail.
Type 3 - White springs, cross-hatching outlined, red /black /gold steps Type 4 - red springs, cross-hatch without outline, white-stripped steps Type 5 - red springs, no cross-hatch ... red-striped steps Type 6 - red springs, no cross-hatch ... white-striped steps Type 7 - plain frame |
