Note that this model has an Ives casting but American Flyer Motor. We believe this dates to 1928. A view from the other side below shows the American Flyer brake switch in the cab and the screw on butterfly windup key that were characteristic of American Flyer motors. Also the Ives motor screwed into the casting from the opposite side, the screw hole usually found on the right hand side of the casting has been filled in and is now on the left. Although virtually the same as tenders from previous years. This No. 11 tender that came with the 1928 No. 1 shown above has smaller tin wheels - these are American Flyer Wheels. This one has both American Flyer casting and motor. The example pictured below is 100% flyer from the casting to the motor. Same No. 1 as above - shown with it's original tender - A No. 12 from 1929. |
