4th series No. 17, 3 boiler bands, long straight boiler, red number plates. The red plate 17 appears to be much harder to find than the 3rd series locomotive. This is the short cab 17. We believe that early on Ives made the No. 11 shorter than the No. 17, but eventually found it more cost effective to just make one size casting for both the No. 11 and 17. Short cab 11s show up but a short cab 17 is unusual. See comparison photo below, note distance from last dome to cab. |
