No 17 (Circa 1901-02) | |||||||||||||||
Circa 1901-1902 - Earliest No. 17 with cast in boiler bands, cast iron 'dished' wheels and that funky brake only found on the very early 17s and 25s. Note that these first series Locomotives have black-painted side plates. Similar first series No. 17 with 'T' tender hook.The example below has the later straight tender hook.
Underneath of No. 17 showing early motor Earliest No. 17? No brake, but looks like there was one. Note the extra piece of casting under the cab and the 'skirt' that drops between the two wheels. We have not seen another early 11 or 17 with these features, but this is the way it was shown in the catalog in 1901. The No. 17 shown in the 1901 catalog shows the brake more elongated and resting over the top of the wheel - see catalog cut below. Also note the different pilot, T shaped tender hook and that the inside of the headlight is NOT painted white, all markers for the very eary 11/17 Here's another early 17 that has the 'T' shaped tender hook, but no 'skirts' |
